PERSUASIVE SPEECH 2016

In the next two weeks you will need to write a persuasive speech that is
2 – 3 minutes long to present to the whole class.
You will be given class time to write your speech and to practise your delivery, however as the deadline approaches, I expect that you work on your speech for homework.
The topic of the speech is up to you. Choose something that you are interested in, something you are passionate about.
You need to think about three things when preparing your speech.
THE FORMAT
You need to include:
·      An introduction that hooks in the audience.
·      Paragraphs that support your point of view/contain information/facts/have a personal connection/make sense.
·      A conclusion that sums up what you have said /ends with a bang!
THE LANGUAGE
Your job is to convince the audience that you believe in what you are talking about, so you’ll need to use emotive or persuasive language and examples.
THE PRESENTATION
You need to consider the following when you are practising:
·      Voice volume, speed and expression.
·      Body language and how you stand.
·      Eye contact – you will need CUE CARDS to get good eye-contact.

Refresh your memory with the speeches we have watched/listened to on YouTube from Kapiti College students in class to give you some tips….

Good luck and remember to start writing early so that you have plenty of time to practise!
